3D Conformal Radio Therapy
Three-dimensional Conformal Radiation Therapy (3-D CRT) is widely practiced today. 3D-CRT uses sophisticated computers and CT scans and/or MRI scans to create detailed, three-dimensional representations of the tumor and surrounding organs. 3D-CRT delivers radiation from the outside of the body from different directions, with the use of a high energy linear accelerator.  The treatment fields are shaped to your particular anatomy utilizing multileaf collimators (MLC) or blocks. Because the radiation beams are very precisely directed, the radiation oncologist is able to deliver the necessary amount of radiation to your cancer while reducing the amount of radiation given to normal structures thereby decreasing the risk of side effects and complications.
